Trail Of The Shadows At Longmire
Mt Rainier National Park
Across from the National Park Inn at Longmire
The 0.75-mile-long Trail of the Shadows, located just across the street from the National Park Inn at Longmire, serves as a combined nature trail and history trail. Pioneers made their homes here. Early visitors to the area came to soak in the mineral springs. And nature is ever-present.
The self-guided loop trail has a number of informative markers. It is an easy hike, more of a stroll, actually, well-suited for most visitors.

More About Mt. Rainier National Park
Spectacular scenery. Great hiking. Challenging mountain climbing. Mt. Rainier has a lot to offer to those looking to get away from it all and to those looking for a great day trip out of Seattle. There are plenty of rugged mountain trails in the park, but there are also ones like Trail of the Shadows that are fairly short and easy enough for most people.
When experiencing Mt. Rainier National Park, it can be easy to forget that Mt. Rainier is regarded as one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world. It has much in common with Mt. St. Helens. But Mt. Rainier is bigger, it's covered with much more ice and snow, and it is closer to major population centers. Lahars from past eruptions have flowed as far as present-day downtown Seattle and Tacoma. So enjoy it while you can.
