Seattle Art Museum
1300 1st Ave
The Seattle Art Museum, located in downtown Seattle, is a large museum with about 25,000 pieces in its collections. The museum specializes in modern art and ethnic art. Given its location, I'm particularly interested in its collection of Pacific Northwest Native American art. The museum is also known for its collections of Australian Aboriginal art and works by North and South American indigenous peoples.
Like most such museums, SAM also features temporary exhibits, many of these tied to European art, which is less covered in its permanent collection than is often typical.
In addition to its downtown facility, the Seattle Art Museum also operates the Seattle Asian Art Museum in Volunteer Park (Volunteer Park Road north of 14th Ave East) and the Olympic Sculpture Park on the edge of Elliot Bay (Western Avenue @ Broad Street).
