Burke Museum Of Natural History And Culture
University Of Washington
1413 NE 45th St
Located on the campus of the University of Washington, the Burke Museum is the oldest natural history museum west of the Mississippi. It is home to more than 16 million artifacts. It has one of the largest collections of Northwest Coast Native American artifacts in the world, a key reason for my interest in this museum. Birders will note that it has some of the largest collections of spread bird wings and frozen bird tissues in the world.
Featured exhibits focus on 545 million years of Pacific Northwest geological and biological history and evolution, and Native American and Pacific Rim cultures.
