Hammering Man Sculpture

Seattle Art Museum

Seattle, Washington

1300 1st Ave

Located in front of the Seattle Art Museum, sculptor Jonathan Borofsky's Hammering Man is a 48-foot tall silhouette of a man whose mechanical arm is hammering away, 4 times a minute, 13 hours a day.

The locals seem to associate Hammering Man specifically with Seattle, and indeed it has inspired some look-alikes around town, one raising a coffee cup and the parody Hammered Man hoisting a beer. However, this in fact is just one of a number of Hammering Man sculptures in different sizes located around the world.
