Portal To The Pacific
1400 Lake Washington Blvd S
After Interstate 90 crosses west across Lake Washington to Seattle, it enters the nearly one kilometer long Mount Baker Tunnel on its way to its end at Interstate 5. On the east end of the tunnel are bas relief concrete panels declaring the tunnel to be the "Portal to the Pacific".
The panels can be views from the East Portal Viewpoint on Lake Washington Boulevard. Here pedestrians and cyclists can access the bridge or tunnel on a protected travel lane dedicated for their use, the I-90 Mountains-to-Sound Greenway Trail.

Sculptor James Fitzgerald created the bas relief sculptures at the east entrance to the Mount Baker Tunnel.
