Astronaut Michael P Anderson Memorial

Michael P. Anderson was one of the astronauts killed when the Space Shuttle Columbia disintegrated over Texas upon reentry in February 2003.
Anderson was born in New York but attended high school in Cheney, Washington near Spokane where his father was stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base.
Artist Dorothy Fowler created a bronze statue of Anderson, which has been installed in Spokane in the breezeway between the Opera House and Convention Center
