Broadway @ S 9th St
Tacoma is a lot smaller than theater-heavy Seattle to the north, but it boasts its own downtown Theater District. The Pantages and Rialto theaters are eye-catching buildings the harken back to the days of grand palaces. Both first opened in 1918 along South 9th Street, with Pantages the oldest of the Pantages Theatres still in operation. The two theaters host live productions, symphonies, concerts and more.
The more intimate Theater on the Square seats 302 people, and features films, entertainers, lectures and other shows.
The Theater District is also home to restaurants and nightlife along nearby Broadway and St. Helens Avenue, although much of the heart of downtown Tacoma is within easy walking distance of the theaters.
